I’ve been a fan of Mark Warren Jacques for a min now and I’m happy to see new directions and explorations in his work over the last year. SF is an amazing city and I can imagine being stoked to live and make art there when you live in an old cathedral lookin wharehouse with your plants, guitar and your own personal quarter pipe to slash!
The Ego Trip fam is kicking off summer in a major way this month. Along with resident selectors Ed Blammo & DJ Image, we’re bringing on a very special guest, Jimmy2Times from Minneapolis via Brooklyn. Mr. 2 Times is responsible for Minneapolis’s long running Get Cryphy party. Yeah I said it. Cryphy. Crunk and Hyphy. You know this fool is gonna put it down Ego Trip style. It’s gonna be like if Mac Dre and Crime Mob came into your house and lit off fireworks and stole your tastycakes.

The audio/visual work of Andy Roche has been quite inspiring around the office these days. His films for his band, Black Vatican, are hypnotic sonic sculptures of glittering noises and ink washed chants. If you don’t know their tunes, here’s what Andy has to say about their new (ish) album;
“We started as a rock band, we got interested in dread and the stuff got electronic, and now I don’t know, this new LP is sort of about fear, cosmic scaled fear.”

Oh yeah Its that time of year again… right? *Cough *Cough… Yeah? Yeah! 420 bro’s! In honor of the biblical burning bush Radlands Clothing will be releasing a limited run of green friendly tee’s. The drop will be going down at Orangline’s 420 movie night/Baked sale Sweeeeet! Along with Radland’s brothers in arms Fresh Melt Water will be releasing their stoney bologny line in the smokiest of fashions. So burn some thai stick and come catch a movie, some new threads, and oh yeah baked goods down at the arts garage. *haha.
Dear Friends,
Today, Weednesday (see what I did there?) 4/20 Radlands and our brothers at FreshMeltWater will be releasing our respective quick strike 420 runs. At the Arts Garage during “Oranglines 4/20 movie night” in collaboration with NYN from 9 to 2.
The event will also feature a “Stonery Bake Sale” “Holiday Cypher” and of course a viewing of the classic film “I’m Gunna Get You Sucka”
ALSO!
It is supposed to cost 5 dollars at the door. (Way less than the cost of a movie) But we really don’t want to discourage our friends from coming so if you can bring 3 or four people let me know ahead of time and we will through your name on the list. Please hit me back no later than 7 O’clock if this works for you.
Here is the rundown for the night:
9:00pm-11:00pm we will be releasing our 420 runs and “Baked goods” will be available out front and our “smoking section” will be open also.
If weather permits we will also be grilling out there.
11:30 We will be showing the classic film “I’m Gunna Get you Sucka!”
Fine foods and “Stoner Munchies” will be sold all night inside
10:00-12:00 Drink specials $5 dollar and $3 dollar drink specials
***After the movie we will be hanging and bullshitting until we figure out where we parked our cars at which point we will all go home for a long nap. Irie! *In a Jamaican accent
One of my all time favorites, Cody Hudson, has some new tees for Stussy this season. Not only does Cody run a solid design studio, design capsule collections for seemingly every brand and put out an insane amount of personal gallery work around the globe, the man also designed and owns a restaurant/ boutique hotel in Chicago, Longman+Eagle.
What a fucking line up this Thursday. Birds of Maya are Philadelphia’s dirtiest jam punks, channeling 70’s punk riff rock and pounding it into submission. Deep Possum crawls out from their west philly tweaker den to vomit sludgy punk and crusted riffs. Puffy Areolas, the shitgaze / space punks from Ohio, destroy braincells with blistering guitar noise and hyper active live performances. With song titles like “Puking Piss” what more could you hope for? JRs Bar, 22nd W.Passyunk. I’ll see you kids there.
Whether you know it or not what you consider the “raw” in skate culture probably finds some of its roots in the contributions made byJ Strickland. This dark horse of the skate industry, after a stint working with the young Hawk team, was responsible for “Bootleg skateboards” and was the creative force and co-founder of Baker Skateboards. However, the essence of his legacy comes from his involvement in the streets. Strickland had been crushing trains from Mexico to Vermont before 1/2 the art directors that run your favorite companies were even born. He’s has grown and adapted his craft over the years into a body of work that uses color, characters, and influences from his unbelievable and insane life to produce amazing works of art that have been shown all over the world. I honestly only know a hand full of dudes that keep it as real as this man and we are proud to call him our friend.
His latest exhibition “Gypsy Treasures” will open April 16th at the Black Sheep NC shop located at 1504 Camden Road, Suite 200|Charlotte, North Carolina 28203
For a better idea of what J is all about I encourage you to read the interview he did with the dope SF based 48Blocks.com-> here
Also check out the skate book release we did with him at Ubiq last year. This issue of “Skate book” features a full chapter of recent photographs can be found here -> at the AUF web store along with large scale prints from the show.
Some lovely mates from London, Kim and Cal, are having a show at Topstitch this Friday. Kim is a textile designer living in Philadelphia and Cal is a film maker living sometimes here, sometimes there. Kim’s eye & rhythm ooze out dreamscapes and ancient hieroglyphics via screenprints and photos/digital mind fucks while Cal interprets and translates this energy via video.
“This exhibition celebrates aspects of women from desired fantasy, innate strength and being, to outward presentation and attitude. Paralleling view points with a tongue-in-cheek nod to the outer planetary, artwork is heavily influenced by Pop /Op Art culture, and more avante garde graphic artists of the 60′s & 70′s. I wanted to have two different visual impacts- firstly bold, graphic and repetitive in comparison to a more nostalgic imagery of photography and digital dreamscapes. This was a super fun collaborative process with those involved (Calixte Davis / Photography and Video, Vien Le Wood & Margeaux Cigainero / Styling and Super models extraordinaire!)” – Kim Chin
